Useful Advices In Custom Framing For Artwork

By Douglas Carter

You may have a painting or a photograph that you want to be framed. Your reason may be is that you like to accentuate it and give more focus of what is depicted in it. You may also want to protect it from dust and other external factors that may damage the quality of art in it. Or you want it to complement the interior design of your house.

But proper framing is not simple like choosing a random frame that the picture or painting can fit in. Things are needed to be considered during custom framing for artwork. The shops located in Syracuse, NY would be able to help you decide with the following helpful guides.

Be informed on the size of your artwork so that you would be able to know the available options for you. Pieces in standards size, normally A3 or A4, have frames that can be readily bought any time while others need custom ones. Moulding will also be determined by the size of the piece and large frames must not use skinny ones that is not strong enough to support it.

Choose the glazing type you preferred and what is needed for the artwork. Standard glazing is only needed when you want to keep the quality of painting for a very long time because of its value. There are also glazing that protects the art from harmful ultraviolet rays that could damage its quality. Anti glare glazes are used when the piece will be placed somewhere with very bright source of light. It is not recommended for oil paintings to be framed with glazing as it may smudge it.

Matting is also used not just for conservation but also to highlight the painting itself and is usually neutral in color. This could add depth and can be used if you want to put multiple pictures in one frame. The widths of its matting should be bigger than the frame and also weighted at the bottom which means the bottom part is wider.

Consider the orientation of the wall you will be placing framed art as well. Landscape images are better placed in walls that have a wider dimension while portraits are better on narrow walls. You can also put together multiple framed images like a puzzle specially if you have images that complements each other.

Think about what material you like to use for the frames as well. There are frames made out wood which have different styles and appearances and can give off different vibes like classic, retro and modern. Frames made with aluminum are good for modern homes as well as commercial spaces.

The color is also essential and could complement the image itself as well as the decorations in the area. Neutral colors are the safest ones but choosing something different like a color similar to the prominent color of your picture is ideal as well. It would make the image pop out and a striking effect will be given.

Consider the location of where you are going to display it. You can group different but related pictures by framing them the same way so the connections can be seen. You can also frame one differently between those with similar frames to put the emphasis on it.
