How You Can Get Creative With Piano Sheet Music

By Amy Clark

There are lots of ways to use something for ideas other than its intended purpose. Piano sheet music is very visually pleasing and can be used in a number of different creative ways to make decorations or bring other ideas to life. The aesthetic is very much in line with current 'shabby chic' trend, which is a soft and ethereal nod to a vintage or rustic style.

A great piece of furniture with sheet music print can be a real conversation piece in the home and is easy to do by yourself. Get a side table or coffee table to repurpose and give it a few more years of good use. Decoupage the music paper onto the table using Mod Podge to get the print sealed.

Further distressing to the piece of furniture can be done for a really authentic vintage feel. Additionally, an antique finish can be achieved with the right kind of stain, easily available most DIY or hardware stores. The stain will react with the paper and seep through in certain areas, randomly creating a beautiful aged effect.

When it's Christmas, there are so many things you can do with sheet music, but carol sheet music makes it even more festive. You can make a paper wreath by rolling sheets into cones, starting at the corner. Snip off the ends of some cones to make different sizes for various layers. Get a circular base or cut one out of cardboard and begin gluing each cone around the edge of the circle.

Keep going around and adding more cones until the circle is completely hidden. The wreath will look like a fantastic starburst of music. Finish off the center of the wreath with a great ornament like a snowflake or tie a huge bow in a rich color like red for the season. To create an even more dramatic effect, age the pieces of paper before beginning, either by using a light stain wash or watercolor wash, or by "baking" the paper for a crispy, aged effect.

Music paper can also be used to create cute little ornaments, again particularly effective during the festive season. Create papier mache ornaments for the tree in different shapes and sizes, such as little boxes wrapped in ribbon like gifts or unique baubles decorated with scroll patterns in glitter. These are also very fun for children to get involved with and help make.

You could create simple but effective gifts for friends using sheet music. Here's an idea: why not make some place mats for a couple's anniversary using larger sheets of paper? Laminate or age them for a great finish and you have a thoughtful gift that works so well in a vintage-themed or monochrome room. This could even be done inexpensively for a wedding, and use the wedding song for the music for something intimate.

Another great way to add a personal touch to a rustic decor for a wedding would be to use the music of the couple's favorite songs to wrap mason jars containing candles. These could be used to line the bride's walkway or at the reception as part of a centerpiece. They could also be used throughout the venue as accent decor.
